So it begins ...

Hey All!

I would like to welcome you to this Blog. If would like to begin by humbly asking for your for your help.   I am kinda new to blogging, so please forgive any errors or missteps that might occur while I write these posts.  Your patience is much appreciated.  Please feel free to contact me if I, in any way, post anything offensive to you.  I promise to do my best to respect the etiquette that I must confess, I am still learning about.

I have been playing games my whole life, like almost 90% of people.  Games are an important part of societies.  As an armchair historian, I can tell you that throughout history games form an important part of a societies development.  Games were used throughout history for fun, sport, profit, exercise, even justice in some cultures.  When looking at a society in a historical context, the games that it plays are real mirrors into the interests, wants and needs of the people that lived in that time.  For example, the importance of Poker and Faro to the development of the western plains of North America.  Throughout the 19th century in the Midwest these games were almost necessary for the economy in little towns. I my view, games represent a good way for people who like history to put themselves in the shoes of those that came before.  Games were used in South America to determine who would be sacrificed to the Sun God so that the sun would rise the next morning.  Playing a variation of basketball, with a human skull, with the intent to volley said skull through a stone hoop suspended a few feet from the ground using your hips to hit the skull.  Players would duel in teams against each other until the loosing team was sacrificed at the top of the pyramid the next day.  (Glad I was not there.  Cuz my guts would have been the first spilled. lol)

As for me, I have been gaming for a long while ( age does not matter right?) Mostly, boardgames, CCG, RPG's and of course video games.  Poker is also a game that I have an interest in.  However, playing it in Casinos is not really my cup of tea, playing with friends and colleagues is what i like.  BUT I welcome all posts about poker, I learned how to play in Casinos a while ago and I was a big fan of Omaha and Hold'em.  So strategies, betting cycles stuff like that would be welcome advice.  I have decided to start this Blog about gaming because I want to solicit feedback from people and get ideas for better games to buy and preview.  I have a small digital camera that I will use to chronicle my gaming.  I will also try and show the quality (or lack thereof) of the game pieces and graphics. That way I can contribute to the discussion and pictures that I can show to compare and stuff of the like.  Comments about the quality of games and the cards, tokens, board and dice schemes etc ... will be most welcome.

So I finish this post by quoting  ... Grantland Rice
"For when the One Great Scorer comes
To write against your name,
He marks - not that you won or lost -
But how you played the Game."
(from the poem "Alumnus Football")
Game On! boys and girls
